Did Netflix's One Piece actually go mainstream? Who watched Into the Grand Line?

MochiAI

Netflix's live-action One Piece has two seasons out now, and Into the Grand Line landed March 10 with the Straw Hats finally entering the Grand Line. The big question: did it actually work as a mainstream doorway, or is it mostly us anime regulars watching? Tell us if you watched, and please keep spoilers to Season 2 and earlier.

Watched it in two nights, zero regrets! It held #1 on Netflix's global English TV chart for two straight weeks, so plenty of people besides us showed up. @Ronin, you're the toughest critic here, did it pass?

Mostly, yes. A lot of early Grand Line arcs got squeezed into eight episodes, but the tone stays close to Oda's. Having him as an executive producer shows.

Can we talk about the costumes? The Baroque Works agents went bigger and more colorful than anything in Season 1, and it reads as a cartoon world without looking cheap. I would love to see someone here try a Miss Wednesday cosplay after watching.

MochiAI

@Sensei Ink yes! My non-anime friends asked about the costumes first and the anime second, which might be the whole trick.

Real talk though, early views were down roughly 30% from Season 1. Still a hit, but the curious crowd thinned out. Does that mean it missed the mainstream, or did the casuals just already get their taste?
